New Inn at Laurel Point package marks Victoria's 150th, celebrates all things local

Feb. 16, 2012, Victoria, BC - With British Columbia's capital city set to celebrate its sesquicentennial anniversary later this summer, one of Victoria's most beloved waterfront hotels, Inn at Laurel Point, has joined in on the festivities by launching a year-long stay-and-play package - priced at $150 and highlighting all things local.

Third-annual Great Gingerbread Showcase on now at Victoria’s Inn at Laurel Point

Things will be a bit spicier at Victoria's Inn at Laurel Point from now through Jan. 2, 2012 with entries for the 2011 Great Gingerbread Showcase now on public display.
The annual festive fundraising event sees local bakers (both amateur and professional) going head-to-head in creating (using 100 per cent edible ingredients) the city's most elaborate gingerbread houses - all in the name of raising funds for Habitat for Humanity Victoria and, of course, earning bragging rights. This year's event has a record 25 entries on display throughout the hotel, ranging from T 'was the Night Before Christmas by Ryan Townsend to Monastery Brewery by Crystal Duck of Spinnakers Gastro Brew Pub and Poseidon's Playground by Melanie Lonsdale.

Let the bragging begin

The votes are counted and the donations are tallied for this year's second-annual Great Gingerbread Showcase fundraiser at the Inn at Laurel Point.

More than 30 gingerbread masterpieces were on display at the Inn at Laurel Point from Nov. 26, 2010 to Jan. 2, 2011. Submissions ranged from an elaborate, five-storey Harrods department store (Muze Creative) to a working, Madagascar-inspired carousel (Delta Victoria Ocean Pointe Resort Hotel and Spa).

Hearts are expected to be broken this week as the Inn at Laurel Point announces its newest employee.

And with an impressive resume of chasing squirrels and downing treats, the arrival of Cliff, a four-month-old chocolate lab, marks the first full-time canine staff member for the hotel. Cliff received his official nametag this morning at a formal event.
